After the Flood, Bikram Hopes to Rebuild His Life

A damaged home, lost belongings and fewer opportunities to earn a living. For 47-year-old Bikram Taye, the floods have made everyday life harder.

Bikram lives alone in Santak Bor Miching Gaon. He was working as a daily wage labourer before the Assam Floods 2026.

The floods partially damaged his bamboo house and kitchen, while mud accumulated inside the premises. He also lost or suffered damage to essential belongings, including his bed, furniture, clothes, utensils and food stocks.

The work opportunities in the village also declined. With no other reported source of income, Bikram was left with fewer resources to repair his home and replace what he had lost. The result? Bikram continues to live in his partially damaged house.

Relief assistance from SEEDS and other organisations has helped meet some immediate needs, but his recovery remains incomplete. Living alone, he must navigate the challenges of repairing his home, replacing essential belongings and finding enough work to support himself.

Bikram hopes to repair his bamboo house, replace essential household items and gain access to safe drinking water and sanitation. More regular work would also help him meet his expenses and gradually rebuild his life.

Together, let’s help Bikram Taye rebuild.
