After the Flood, Mayu Munda Hopes to Rebuild What Sustained Her Family

Mayu Munda’s family worked hard to meet their everyday needs. Putola earned ₹7,000–₹8,000 a month through daily wage labour, while Mayu cared for their household and livestock. Their paddy fields and stored grain offered another source of support.

But the July 2026 floods damaged their home and granary and submerged their stored paddy. Mud covered their agricultural field, disrupting cultivation. Ten poultry and a pig were washed away, further reducing the resources available to the family.

The waters have receded, but starting over is not as simple as returning home.

More than two months later, Mayu’s family is still trying to rebuild. Putola continues to work, but his earnings cover only part of their expenses. The family must also work towards repairing their home, restoring essential household facilities and finding ways to rebuild their livelihood.

Relief assistance has helped meet some immediate needs, but the path to recovery remains long. But they still need support to rebuild a safer home and take practical steps towards that goal.

They have begun finding their way forward. Together, let’s help Mayu and her family rebuild with greater safety, stability and hope.
