Head: Ajay Munda

Ajay Munda, 25, was the primary earner for his household in Santak Sawra Basti. Before the July 2026 floods, he worked as a daily wage labourer, earning approximately ₹7,000–₹8,000 per month. The family also depended on poultry and goats as a secondary source of livelihood.

His mother, Moina Munda, 60, managed household chores and looked after the livestock while Ajay worked to meet the family’s daily needs. Their bamboo house provided shelter, and their livestock offered an additional resource to support the household

The Flood Left the Family Without Secure Shelter

It damaged the family’s bamboo house. While the roof remains intact, the walls were completely damaged, leaving the structure without adequate protection. The family has been living in a makeshift arrangement.

They also lost essential household belongings, including beds, furniture, cooking utensils, clothes, bedding, food stocks, electrical appliances and other basic items. Their poultry and goats were washed away in the flood.

Ajay continues to seek daily wage work, but the household is only partially able to meet its expenses. The loss of livestock has reduced the family’s livelihood options, while the damaged house and missing household items have increased the burden of recovery.

SEEDS and other organisations have provided food, household items, a hygiene kit and a utensil kit. This support has helped address immediate needs, but it has not resolved the family’s shelter and livelihood problems.

The most urgent concern is the condition of the house. With the walls completely damaged, repairing or reconstructing them is necessary to restore adequate protection. Replacing the lost poultry and goats could also help rebuild the household’s secondary livelihood, while safe water, sanitation and essential household items remain important gaps.

Together, let’s help Ajay Munda build a safe home and restore livelihood.
