Appun Pegu Finds a Way Forward After Every Flood
Pakania Fv, Lakhimpur
When floods return year after year, rebuilding becomes a recurring struggle. For Appun Pegu, the damage to her home, crops and livelihood has made it difficult to secure a steady income and plan for the future.
Appun lived with Priyam Pegu, 6, in Pakania Fv, where their household depended on cultivation and selling livestock for a living.
The recurring floods damaged the family’s home and garden crops, while their two bighas of paddy fields were also affected. The family’s seven ducks, four chickens and one pig were lost.
Although the floodwaters have receded, Appun continues to face an uncertain livelihood. Regular work is difficult to find during the flood season, and the loss of crops further reduces her options for earning. The family also lacks a safe, raised place to shelter during floods and struggles to access clean drinking water.
Over the next three to six months, Appun hopes to restart small-scale livestock rearing, particularly poultry and ducks, or grow a kitchen garden. Support to repair her home, restore cultivation and access safe shelter and drinking water would help her work towards a more secure future.
Together, let’s help Appun rebuild a safer home and livelihood.
