Even Cooking a Meal Becomes a Challenge For Bhobani After the Floods
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira, Sibsagar, Assam
For Bhobani Morang and her family, the floods left behind more than damaged household belongings. They disrupted the everyday resources the family depended on to get by.
Before the Assam floods of 2026, Bhobani’s family relied on daily wage labour and livestock rearing. While Puneswar worked to earn a living, Bhobani managed the household and cared for their livestock. Together, they supported their three children with a modest income.
The floods damaged their bamboo kitchen and sanitation facilities, destroyed essential household belongings and swept away their cow, goats and poultry. Rebuilding has become a daily challenge for Bhobani and her family even after months passed.
Today, the family continues to live in their semi-permanent home, but the kitchen needs repairs and access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation remains a concern. Although relief assistance from SEEDS and other organisations has helped meet some immediate needs, the family still depends on food received as relief.
For Bhobani’s family, recovery means more than repairing their home. It means restoring essential facilities, replacing lost livestock and rebuilding a dependable source of income.
Your support can help Bhobani’s family move beyond relief and rebuild towards a safer, more secure future.
