Give Pallobi’s Family a Fresh Start After the Assam Floods
Gisek, Assam
For Pallobi Taid Payeng, 30, farming was more than a source of income. Growing paddy and vegetables and raising livestock helped her family meet its daily needs. But the floods have disrupted the livelihood she worked hard to maintain.
All four bighas of her paddy fields were affected, and floodwater continues to cover the farmland. Pallobi also lost a pig and three chickens.
Today, Pallobi and her family depend on daily wage work for an income. With their fields’ still underwater, restarting cultivation is difficult, and the family needs support to rebuild its sources of livelihood.
Pallobi hopes to begin again by raising goats and ducks and growing vegetables in a kitchen garden over the next three to six months. Financial assistance, livestock and vegetable seeds could help her take these first steps towards recovery.
A few animals and seeds could help Pallobi begin rebuilding what the floods took away.
Let’s help her family restore its livelihood and move towards a more secure future.
