Help Ishak Munda Find Stability Again After the Assam Floods
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira Block, Sibsagar District, Assam
Before the flood, Ishak Munda and his wife, Asthami, 27, worked in a tea garden to support their two children. They lived in a bamboo house in Gohain Bari. Their combined monthly earnings helped them manage household expenses, while poultry provided an additional source of livelihood.
Their bamboo house remained intact, but the flood took away many of the essentials within it. Beds, furniture, clothes, bedding, cooking utensils, food stocks, electrical appliances and school materials were lost or damaged. The family also lost its poultry, reducing the resources it could rely on beyond daily wages.
The loss continues to affect the family. Ishak and Asthami still work in the tea garden, but rainy days often mean fewer work opportunities and less income.
For this family, rebuilding is not about constructing a new house. It is about replacing lost essentials, restoring the poultry that once supplemented their earnings and improving sanitation.
The family has received food, household items, hygiene kits and utensil kits from SEEDS and other organisations. Over the next three to six months, Ishak and Asthami hope to replace their poultry, restore essential household items and improve sanitation.
Their home still stands, but rebuilding everyday life takes support. Let’s help Ishak’s family restore its livelihood.
