Help Moni Morang Rebuild What the Assam Floods Took Away

When the floods receded, Moni Morang’s family was left with damaged homes, lost livestock and an income that has yet to recover.

Before the Assam floods of 2026, Moni’s family of five depended on daily wage labour and livestock rearing. Her father, Lachit, worked as a daily wage labourer, while her mother managed the household and cared for their animals. Together, these sources helped the family meet its everyday needs.

When the floods struck, the family’s semi-permanent house suffered damage. Their toilet and washroom were also affected. The family lost a cow and a pig, along with essential household belongings, stored food and other necessities.

Today, the family continues to live in its damaged home. With their livestock gone and household income reduced, meeting daily expenses has become difficult. Although Lachit has resumed daily wage work, the family is only partially able to manage its needs. Access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation remains a concern.

For Moni, recovery means having a safer place to live, restoring the family’s livestock and rebuilding a more dependable source of income. She hopes her family can regain stability and provide a secure environment for the children.

Together, let’s help Moni and her family rebuild a safer home and livelihood.
