Help Reshma Pegu Panging Rebuild Her Livelihood After the Floods
Santak Bali Gaon, Nazira, Sibsagar, Assam
A home may still stand, but rebuilding life takes more than four walls.
Before the Assam floods of 2026, Reshma Pegu Panging and her husband, Ajay, supported their family of four through daily wage labour and livestock rearing. Their animals provided an additional source of support alongside Ajay's earnings.
When floodwaters rose to neck height, the family took shelter in a neighbour's house. Their paddy stocks were submerged, and their pig, cow and poultry were lost. Although their bamboo chang ghar remained intact, the toilet and washroom were damaged.
The months passed, but the family still depends on relief food provided by SEEDS and other organisations. With their livestock gone, an important source of household support has disappeared. The damaged sanitation facilities and lack of safe drinking water add to their everyday challenges.
For Reshma, recovery means rebuilding the livelihood resources her family depended on and restoring access to safe water and sanitation.
Together, let’s help Reshma and her family replace lost livestock and restore essential WASH facilities.
