Junali Morang and Her Family Still Faces Challenges in Rebuilding
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira Block, Sibsagar District, Assam
Promud Morang supported his family through daily wage labour, while his wife, Junali, managed household responsibilities, cared for their children and looked after their livestock.
The family lived in a traditional bamboo chang ghar and maintained a granary for storing food stocks. The flood partially damaged their chang ghar, leaving mud inside the home. The granary, toilet and washroom were also damaged. Household essentials, from bedding and clothes to cooking utensils, food stocks, electrical appliances and school materials, were lost or damaged.
The loss of goats and poultry further reduced the family’s livelihood resources.
Although the floodwaters have receded, the family’s recovery remains unfinished. They continue to live in their damaged home and need support to repair the shelter and improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
Relief assistance from SEEDS and other organisations has helped meet some immediate needs. However, the family still faces the challenge of restoring its livelihood and managing everyday expenses without regular earnings. Over the next three to six months, the family hopes to repair its home, replace the lost livestock and restore a reliable source of income.
The floodwaters have receded, but rebuilding takes time.
Let’s help Junali’s family restore its livelihood, improve its living conditions and move towards a more secure future.
