Milonti Morang’s Family Struggles to Recover After the Flood
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira Block, Sibsagar District, Assam
Before the July 2026 floods, Milonti Morang and her family lived in a bamboo house in Santak Bor Miching Gaon. Her husband, Raju, worked as a daily wage labourer, while Milonti cared for their poultry and pig. Their home was where they rested, prepared meals and went about their everyday lives.
The floods damaged their home and kitchen, covered their living spaces with mud and destroyed or damaged essential belongings, including clothes, utensils and their children’s school materials. Their poultry and pig were also washed away.
Now, as families across Assam work to rebuild, Milonti’s family is still trying to make their damaged house feel like home again.
More than two months after the floods, they continue to live in their partially damaged home. Limited access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation adds to their daily challenges. Although relief supplies from SEEDS and other organisations have helped. But repairing their home and replacing lost essentials still remain important steps in their recovery.
For Milonti, rebuilding means having a functional kitchen, a safer place for her children and a home where everyday life can begin to feel familiar again.
The floods have passed but the struggle to rebuild continues. Let’s put a pause to their struggle and help Milonti turn damaged house into safe home and uncertain days into hopeful tomorrows.
