Minali Taye Stands Strong After Floods Disrupts Her Livelihood
Khabalu, Assam
For Minali Taye, 25, farming was more than a way to earn a living. Her paddy fields, vegetable garden and livestock helped sustain her family. She reared goats and ducks while cultivating crops to meet their everyday needs.
The floods damaged Minali’s two bighas of paddy fields and her cattle shed. She also lost two goats and two ducks. Although floodwater has receded from the family’s home, the paddy fields remain submerged, preventing her from returning to cultivation.
With her livelihood disrupted, Minali and her family now work as daily wage labourers to make ends meet. The shift has made rebuilding the farming and livestock-based livelihood she once depended on more difficult.
For Minali, recovery means returning to the work that sustained her family. She needs paddy seeds to resume cultivation and support to replace her lost livestock. Financial assistance and essential household items would also help her family meet its everyday needs.
As floods continue to affect farmland and livestock in the area, rebuilding these resources is an important step towards restoring her livelihood and strengthening her family's financial stability.
The floods damaged Minali’s fields and took away the livestock she relied on. Let’s help her rebuild her livelihood, return to farming and work towards a more secure future.
