Padmeswari Paw Is Still Searching for a Way to Rebuild After the Flood
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira Block, Sibsagar District, Assam
For Padmeswari Paw, farming and a small shop were more than ways to earn a living. They helped her meet her daily needs and maintain a measure of independence. At 60, she relied on sharecropping, livestock rearing and small-scale trading to support herself, with a reported income of ₹6,000–₹7,000.
The floods left her farmland covered in mud and damaged her standing crops. The sharecropping work she depended on was disrupted, and her small shop was washed away. She also lost goats and poultry, while her granary and bamboo chang ghar were damaged. Mud filled parts of her home, and the toilet and washroom were affected.
As these losses accumulated, Padmeswari was left without a reported source of income.
Padmeswari has received food and household assistance, including a hygiene kit and a utensil kit, from SEEDS and other organisations. This support has helped address some immediate needs, but it has not restored the livelihood she lost.
She continues to live in her damaged bamboo home and needs support with repairs, safe drinking water and sanitation. Finding a suitable way to earn again is equally important.
Her shop is gone, and her livelihood has been disrupted. Let’s help Padmeswari rebuild the means to support herself and restore a safer place to call home.
