Puneswari Rebuilds a Safer Home Behind the Family’s Daily Needs
Santak Bor Miching Gaon, Nazira Block, Sibsagar District, Assam
A home should offer safety, a place to rest and the comfort of knowing tomorrow will bring another chance to begin. For Puneswari Morang and her family, the Assam floods of 2026 disrupted that sense of security.
Before the floods, life revolved around daily work and caring for their livestock. Bapun Morang, 65, and his son earned a living as daily wage labourers, while Puneswari managed the household and looked after their animals. Together, they worked to meet their family’s everyday needs.
Then came the floods. Mud filled their bamboo house, leaving parts of it damaged. Essential household belongings and livestock were lost. What they had built through daily effort was suddenly much harder to sustain.
Today, the family continues to live in its damaged home, with no current income to rely on. They depend on relief food to get by. While support from SEEDS and other organisations has provided food, hygiene supplies and utensils, the family still faces the difficult task to rebuild their home and restore livelihood.
For Puneswari, rebuilding means more than repairing a damaged house. It means having a safe place to call home and build a more secure future.
Together, let’s help Puneswari rebuild a safer home.
