Before the Assam floods of 2026, Padumi Panging, 29, played an important role in supporting her family of five. Alongside managing the household and caring for her child and elderly family members, she looked after the livestock that provided an additional source of support for the family.

When the floods struck, the family’s stored paddy was submerged and their granary was damaged. They also lost a cow and a pig, along with several essential household belongings. Although their bamboo chang ghar remained intact, the toilet and washroom were damaged.

Today, Padumi continues to manage her household amid uncertainty. With their stored paddy lost, the family relies on relief food to supplement its needs. The loss of livestock has also reduced the resources she once helped care for. Access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation remains a concern.

For Padumi, recovery means restoring the resources that helped her care for her family. Together, let’s help Padumi rebuild her family’s resources and create a more secure future.
