The Flood Took Their Livelihood. Rina Is Ready to Rebuild.
Santak Bormichiing Gaon Village, Nazira Block, Sivasagar District, Assam
When the floodwaters rose in Santok Bormishing village, they reached Rina Morang’s family granary and submerged it completely. Along with the grain stored there, the family lost the animals they depended on.
Before the flood, Rina’s household lived on an indicative ₹4,800–₹6,100 a month, coming largely from farm work and the livestock the family kept at home, based on typical income levels for similar households in the area and yet to be confirmed through field verification.
For Rina and her family, these losses have made the days ahead more uncertain. But recovery begins with restoring the essentials that help a family rebuild and move forward.
Rina Morang shares: “Our granary was completely submerged. Three cows are gone, the pigs are gone, the chickens are gone, and no ducks are left. We are currently in a very difficult situation. If we receive some support, it would help us.”
Rina is now looking towards support that can help her family recover from these losses and restore the resources they need for everyday life.
Indicative Recovery Requirement
Based on an initial indicative assessment, Rina’s recovery requirement could be around ₹2,25,000. Around ₹1,26,000 is indicated for rebuilding a permanent house, reflecting the near-total destruction of the existing structure and the need for a full, durable rebuild. A further ₹51,000 is indicated for replacing the domestic animals lost, based on a typical small mixed holding for the area, to be confirmed through field verification. ₹30,000 is set aside for household utensils and essential items, and ₹18,000 for continued food and drinking water support during the recovery period.
Recovery requirements and costs are indicative and subject to field and technical verification. Support will be prioritised according to assessed household needs.
