Madhavi Panging: A Home Reduced to Ruins, a Family Still Waiting

For Madhavi Panging, the floods changed the place her family calls home. Her house collapsed, leaving the family without a safe and secure shelter. Clothes and bedding were also lost, making it harder to return to everyday life.

Before the flood, Madhavi's household lived on an indicative ₹4,700–₹6,000 a month, coming largely from farm work and the livestock the family kept at home, based on typical income levels for similar households in the area and yet to be confirmed through field verification.

Relief support has helped Madhavi and her family meet some of their immediate needs. Receiving the aid materials brought her relief, and she expressed her gratitude to those who supported her family.

Madhavi Panging shares: “We felt very glad to receive the aid materials. We sincerely thank those who provided them. The floods caused a great deal of damage to us. Our house collapsed, and none of our clothes or bedding were left. Further support would be very helpful.”

Indicative Recovery Requirement

Based on an initial indicative assessment, Madhavi's recovery requirement could be around ₹2,33,000. Around ₹1,24,000 is indicated for rebuilding a permanent house, reflecting the near-total destruction of the existing structure and the need for a full, durable rebuild. A further ₹53,000 is indicated for replacing the domestic animals lost, based on a typical small mixed holding for the area, to be confirmed through field verification. ₹34,000 is set aside for household utensils and essential items, and ₹22,000 for continued food and drinking water support during the recovery period.

Recovery requirements and costs are indicative and subject to field and technical verification. Support will be prioritised according to assessed household needs.
