Head: Chenai Narah

Before the floods, Chenai Narah relied on farming and daily-wage labour to help support her family. She cultivated crops, grew vegetables and raised livestock, including goats and ducks. These activities provided ways to earn an income and meet household needs. Her family also depended on its paddy field and the animals it raised, making their land and livestock important assets in their everyday lives.

For Chenai, farming was more than an occupation. It was part of how her family managed its food and income. But recurring floods have repeatedly disrupted this way of life, making it difficult to protect what they have and rebuild after each loss.

The July 2026 floods damaged the family’s two-bigha paddy field, affecting an important source of food and income. The assessment also records the loss of one pig and three chickens. These losses reduced the resources available to the family at a time when it needed them most.

The impact on Chenai’s family is part of a wider pattern they have experienced over the years. Floods have damaged crops, livestock, their home and other household property, repeatedly affecting the family’s ability to maintain a stable livelihood.

Although floodwater has receded from the family’s home, it remains in the paddy fields. With cultivation affected, Chenai and her family are working as daily-wage labourers to earn an income. This offers a way to meet some immediate needs, but it does not replace the crops and livestock they have lost.

The family’s financial situation remains strained. Damaged crops mean reduced food supplies and earnings, while the loss of livestock removes another source of livelihood. The recurring damage to their home and household belongings adds to the cost of recovering after each flood.

For Chenai, the challenge is not simply to recover from one flood, but to rebuild in the face of repeated losses. It is to restore the paddy field, grow vegetables again and replace livestock. It would help the family regain some of the resources it depended on before the floods. However, these steps require financial support that the household cannot easily provide from its current earnings.

Chenai and her family are continuing to work as daily-wage labourers while seeking ways to restore their farming activities. Over the coming months, restoring the damaged paddy field and kitchen garden, replacing lost livestock and repairing damage to the home and household property will be important steps towards recovery. Financial assistance could help the family address these needs while continuing to earn through the work available to them.

Your support can help Chenai and her family restore its livelihood and rebuild after repeated floods.
