For Eati Payeng, 47, farming and daily-wage work have been important to supporting her family. As a farmer, she cultivated a three-bigha paddy field, grew vegetables and raised livestock, including goats, ducks and chickens. These activities helped her earn a living and meet her household’s everyday needs.

Eati carries the responsibility of helping sustain her family while managing the challenges of an uncertain livelihood. Her crops and livestock are more than household assets. They are essential resources that help her put food on the table and work towards a more secure future.

Flooding has repeatedly disrupted Eati’s life, damaging her home and destroying garden crops. The recurring losses have affected both her living conditions and her ability to earn a livelihood.

During the flood season, rising water and the lack of a safe, elevated place to shelter create additional concerns. For a household that depends on farming and daily-wage work, damage to crops and the home can mean losing income while facing further expenses to meet basic needs.

Even after the floodwater recedes, the challenges continue. Eati’s family struggles to find daily-wage work during flood periods, making it difficult to maintain a regular income. Food shortages add to the pressure, while access to clean drinking water remains a concern.

The family’s dependence on cultivation makes the loss of garden crops particularly difficult. Restoring the land and growing vegetables again requires seeds, tools and other agricultural inputs. Livestock also plays an important role in the household’s livelihood, providing assets that can help support the family over time.

Eati describes the recurring difficulties her family faces:

“Floods happen every year, floods destroyed house and garden crops. I don't get a job to earn a living and they have no high place to rest in the time of flood and lack of clean drinking water.”

She hopes to restore the small-scale farming activities that can help her family regain some stability. To move towards these goals, Eati needs support with agricultural seeds, tools and livestock, as well as food and clean drinking water. Repairing her home and ensuring access to a safer place during floods are also important to help her family prepare for future flooding.

Your support can help Eati rebuild her home, restore her livelihood and work towards a safer future for her family.
