The Flood Washed Away More Than a Home. Help Hemodhar Rebuild His Home and Livelihood.

When the floodwaters swept through Santak Bor Miching village in Assam, Hemodhar Morang lost almost everything his family depended on.

His home was severely damaged and is no longer safe to live in. His livestock, an important part of the family’s livelihood, was swept away. Utensils, household essentials and many of the everyday things that made their house a home were damaged or lost.

Today, Hemodhar Morang and his family are staying in a neighbour’s house.

They have ration and drinking water to help them through the immediate aftermath of the flood. This immediate flood relief is helping the family manage today, but rebuilding will take longer.

Before the flood, Hemodhar's household lived on an indicative ₹4,800–₹6,000 a month, coming largely from farm work and the livestock the family kept at home, based on typical income levels for similar households in the area and yet to be confirmed through field verification.

Hemodhar Morang’s family says: “Ducks and chickens were part of our everyday life and livelihood. We had 25 ducks, but the floods took them away. Around 20 of our chickens also died. For our family, these were more than animals, they were a source of income and a part of the life we are now trying to rebuild.”

For Hemodhar Morang, recovery means having a safe place where his family can live again.
