The flood changed everyday life for Ritu Panging and her family in Santak Bormichiing Gaon. Their home was severely damaged, household belongings were lost and the family’s stored grain and crops were washed away.

For a family already trying to recover, the loss of basic household essentials has made everyday life harder. A bed to sleep on, food supplies and other items that once made their home functional are among the things they now need to restore. Support received so far has provided some immediate assistance, but there is still a long way to go towards rebuilding a safe and secure home.

The family’s experience reflects how recovery continues even after the floodwaters recede. Replacing what was lost and rebuilding a safe home can help them begin restoring the routines and security that were disrupted by the flood.

Ritu Panging shares:

"Due to the flood, we lost everything. We received support from SEEDS and we are very grateful for it. Right now, we don’t even have a bed to sleep on. Everything was destroyed and we are sleeping on the ground. The flood washed away all our stored grain and crops, and things haven’t dried up yet.”

Recovery Begins With a Safe Place to Live

For Ritu’s family, recovery is not only about receiving immediate relief. It is also about rebuilding the home and restoring the essentials needed for everyday life.

A permanent home can provide the family with a safe place of their own, while household items and food supplies can help them rebuild their daily routines. Restoring the resources lost in the flood can also help the family move towards greater stability.

What Ritu’s Family Needs to Rebuild

Based on an initial indicative assessment, Ritu's recovery requirement could be around ₹2,55,000. Around ₹1,38,000 is indicated for rebuilding a permanent house, reflecting the near-total destruction of the existing structure and the need for a full, durable rebuild. A further ₹56,000 is indicated for replacing the domestic animals lost, based on a typical small mixed holding for the area, to be confirmed through field verification. ₹37,000 is set aside for household utensils and essential items, and ₹24,000 for continued food and drinking water support during the recovery period.

Recovery requirements and costs are indicative and subject to field and technical verification. Support will be prioritised according to assessed household needs.

Help Ritu’s Family Rebuild

Immediate support can help a family through the first days after a flood. But recovery continues beyond those first essentials.

For Ritu’s family, rebuilding means having a safe home again, restoring everyday household necessities and replacing the resources lost in the flood. Your support can help them take these next steps and rebuild with greater security and dignity.

Your contribution can support SEEDS’ flood response and recovery efforts for affected families based on assessed needs.
